New Client Financial Planning Process

Discovery Meeting

(60-90 mins) Introductory meeting to get to know you, understand your financial background, discuss your objectives, learn more about us, answer your questions, and explore if there is a good potential fit.

Gather Data & Establish Objectives

(1-2 Weeks) After engagement, we collect comprehensive information about your financial situation, including assets, liabilities, income, and expenses. During this initial stage, we also work closely with you to codify short-term and long-term financial goals into an Investment Policy Statement. This detailed gathering of personal and financial data lays the foundation for creating a tailored financial plan that aligns with your unique aspirations and life circumstances.

Analyze Current Course and Potential Alternative Strategies

(~1 Week) After we gather the necessary data, we thoroughly examine your existing financial strategies and their effectiveness in meeting established goals. During this stage, we evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the current plan and explores various alternative strategies. This analysis helps identify potential adjustments or different approaches that could better optimize financial outcomes, enhance wealth accumulation, or mitigate risks, ensuring that the financial plan remains aligned with your evolving needs and market conditions.

Financial Plan Development

(1-2 Weeks) We synthesize all the collected data and analysis to construct a comprehensive plan tailored to your specific goals and circumstances. This phase involves selecting the most suitable strategies and financial tools, such as investments, insurance, and estate planning measures, to effectively address your needs.

Present Recommendations

(1-2 Hours) We provide a detailed presentation of the proposed strategies and solutions tailored to meet your goals and needs. We explain the rationale behind each recommendation, how it fits into the overall plan, and the expected outcomes. This phase also allows for an interactive discussion where our clients can ask questions, express concerns, and request adjustments, ensuring that the plan aligns fully with their vision and comfort level before implementation.

Plan Implementation

(2-4 Weeks) In this phase, we put the agreed-upon strategies and recommendations are put into action. This step involves executing the specific actions outlined in the plan, such as investing in certain assets, transfering portfolios, or setting up estate planning documents. If necessary. we collaborate with other professionals like accountants, lawyers, and tax experts during this phase to ensure all elements of the plan are effectively implemented.

Monitor Progress & Adjust as Necessary

(Ongoing) We regularly review the implemented plan to ensure it remains effective and aligned with your goals, which may evolve over time. We track the performance of investments and assess any significant life changes that could influence the client’s financial situation. Based on these reviews, we may recommend adjustments to the plan to address new challenges or opportunities, ensuring that the financial strategy continues to support your long-term objectives efficiently.

However, our comprehensive financial plans and portfolio proposals are tailored to each client and require considerable time to compile. Therefore, we reserve this detailed work exclusively for existing Bootpack clients.

  • During the initial 3-6 month onboarding phase, we maintain frequent communication—daily or weekly—as there are many moving parts in implementing a new financial plan. After this phase, clients typically prefer to touch base 2-4 times a year for portfolio updates or on an as-needed basis when situations arise. Regardless of the need, we’re always available.

    We intentionally maintain a relatively small number of clients compared to the hundreds or thousands at other firms. This enables us to dedicate more time to each client and be highly responsive.

    Additionally, all clients receive monthly or quarterly reports summarizing their accounts, including inflows and outflows, rate of return, and commentary on their portfolio and asset classes.

The only difference is the degree of risk—some clients prefer more, while others prefer less. Regardless, we will always be among Bootpack’s largest clients. - a very different approach than most wealth management firms.

  • No, our sole business is providing ongoing advice and investment management. We are not a brokerage firm and do not hold client funds. Instead, we utilize Charles Schwab, an independent brokerage firm and custodian, where clients maintain their accounts and investments. We hold a Limited Power of Attorney on client accounts, allowing us to buy and sell investments to manage your portfolio effectively.

  • No, we do not. However, we systematically review the last 2-3 years of your 1040 tax returns using state-of-the-art AI technology. This allows us to provide a comprehensive analysis of your tax situation, including actionable recommendations for tax savings.
